The first thing you'll notice is the weather, which will be selected at random and then prevail for the duration of the map. There are sometimes also effects associated with the weather: so if it rains (25%), you'll see a rainbow; when it's sunny (25%), there's a 'severe' heat haze; while if it's windy (20%) there'll be quite a dust storm and you won't see as much at all. Somewhat associated with the weather, the terrain may also be affected, e.g. if it snows (5%), then the terrain will then have a thin covering of the white stuff, and a calm (10%) will be after it has rained so much that the landscape is almost grassy. The remaining percentage points are made up of combinations like snow terrain + wind, and in all there are 8 weather-related and visibility-affecting conditions.
Another factor will be a number of randomly selected barrels that are contaminated and will affect your health within a proximity of around 20 feet, according to how close you are and for how long, though the dose is usually lethal in hardcore. These barrels are easily recognized, being striped black and yellow, and are most often placed near the completely safe rusty barrels. In total, there are 8 different arrangements, with between 4 and 12 barrels on the map depending, and these will have the effect of varying the flow of traffic around the map each load.
To serve the same purpose, there is a barbed-wire fence dividing the map roughly in half, with 2 gaps always present where a truck is overturned on a road that runs roughly perpendicular. Additionally, within this fence there will be a number of randomly selected holes. The total number of ways through will be between 2 and 10 depending, and here again there are 8 possibilities.
By request, the heli for _rnd will be upgraded, and that new heli version is included early here in this map. It is now based loosely on a ch64e (like in mp_crash, but patched-up) as opposed to the old blackhawk design, to allow for a little more room inside. The 'piloting' is now slightly more sophisticated than the previous buttons method, as a player simply stands in the cockpit and looks the direction he wishes to travel and press either FIRE (for up/down/forward) or AIM (for left/right/backward), and these instructions are available in the cockpit too. The heli also two side turrets to be operated optionally. While the heli cannot be destroyed, it may be damaged and have significantly reduced speed by shots to the weakspot on it, which is the front rotor shaft (about the difficulty of a headshot at the same range). The speed will half after 5 hits (any weapon) and then again with 10.
